tiny tighe question

I'm thinking of buying a CRKT tiny tighe for a friend of mine. She is looking for a knife that is relatively small and with some texture or grip to it. She also wants something that looks nice. I think this knife would fit the bill but I haven't ever handled one. So, if anyone can comment on their experience as far as quality and ergonomics I would appreciate it.

The CRKT Tiny Tighe (Outburst/AutoLAwks)I had a few years back opened in my pocket twice. The second time it happened I reached into my pocket and the tip penetrated one of my finger tips. When I checked out the damage I realized it had already cut through my denim pocket sometime before I jabbed myself and I didn't even notice.

I tried adjusting the pivot to find a better tension point in the Outburst functionality but all I could get was a point where it was too tight and wouldn't fully deploy or it was where it was at before it opened in my pocket. Nothing in between.

Are you guys talking about the Tiny Tighe Breaker?
I had one myself a few months ago, but sold it.
Bottom line: Outburst = crap. Far too sensitive to light pressure on the thumbstuds. The slightest of force will make the blade shoot out.
Get your friend a Spyderco Delica FFG in a woman-friendly color

I like my Tiny Tighe Breaker, although it has opened in my pocket as others have mentioned. It comes without the AO feature, too, though, and I think it would be pretty simple to remove the spring from an outburst model. The ergonomics are excellent, the grooves are shaped just right for your fingers. And it looks great, too. The quality is decent but not as good as other similar knives in its price range (Kershaw Leek composite, Spyderco Delica 4). I'd say get it if you really like the look and ergonomics, otherwise look elsewhere.

i own quite a few crkt knives and i happen to like them. i think they are great for the money. but to each their own.

I carry a My Tighe every day and have had no problems with it coming open in my pocket, but it is a bigger knife and requires more movment of the blade to engage the outburst mechanism. I like it and for the money its alot of knife.

I've been very happy w/all the non-assisted opening CRKT products I've bought, and the only thing my wife doesn't like (me neither, frankly) is the Auto-Lawks, which is overkill, IMO, unnecessary, and makes it too hard to close the knife.

Still, quick opening is far more important than quick closing, and my wife has been able to flick all of them open quickly and easily, one handed, w/a thumbstud or flipper. VERY smooth and slick action, on my knives at least.

I've never bought a CRKT which cost in excess of $40, but at that price point, I always felt like I got my money's worth and more, esp. w/regard to the action (no experience w/Outburst feature, so what I love about 'em may actually be a problem there). The ones I've owned have always held up, worked, not broken, etc. I don't get the constant grief CRKT seems to take around here. No, they ain't Hinderers, and they ain't Sebenzas, but they don't cost nearly that, either. Some folks want to buy a $40 dollar knife and have it perform like a $100 (or $400) kninfe.

I've always liked the My Tighe and Tiny Tighe designs myself, but never bought one precisely b/c of the reports of the Outburst popping open in the pockets. D/n know one was offered w/o assisted-open, but if so, I'd say go for it, and report back to us on how it works for you/her. Might buy one for my own missus.

Thanks everyone.
that info helps a great deal. I didn't even consider the outburst system in my calculations.

Ok, so I took a look at mine, and the outburst shouldn't be a consideration. The spring bar for it is held in place by a T6 torx bit, and it was really easy to take it out. As a non-assisted opener, it opens really quickly and smoothly. Turns out I didn't really need the outburst after all. Plus, the detent on the blade is actually pretty good with the spring out.

I like mine. I think the fit and finish are quite good for the price. It looks very good also. I've had no problems with the Outburst system.
