Tiny whittling knife, a masterpiece

I picked up this knife from an online auction for 60$ in Sweden. The price might sound a little high but I’ve look at thousands and thousands of whittling during a recent project and this one seemed like a truly unique piece. I just got it in the mail today and could not be happier. Fore such a simple object the craftsmanship looks top notch and its twice as heavy as you would expect. And given its age the design seems almost contemporary. The overall length is 163mm (5.5”). The blade is 5mm at the base and has a crowned tapered scandi-grind with a small soldered plate at the back and a B stamped to the blade. The handle is stamped CL. I think the blade might be a composite and that the blade is newer than 1741 silver plate but the craftsmanship and the silverwork has a real antique (1800-1900) feel to it I’m just stunned.

Has anyone seen something like this?

Quite understated elegant piece! I look forward to finding out more about it and seeing more glamor shots:D:thumbup:

Great looking knife. Those Swedish and Finnish knives always manage to be very functional and nice looking at the same time!

I'd love...no, I need to find out more about this piece. That looks like a fantastic little knife to add to my whittling arsenal.

That is an absolute dandy. A stout little thing at 5mm, I bet it does have a nice heft to it. It's hard to tell, but what is the handle material and is it completely curved or does it have angles on it? It's hard to tell with the glare. Thanks for posting that, beautiful little knife.

:) Thanx for the kind replies.

The cross section of the handle has an almond shape (like a guitar pick) with a pointed angel at the bottom. The spine has a flat part that starts at the clip point that runs along the "spine" of the handle.

I'm going to do some research on the knife and hopefully post the results here.
