Tip-Down Axis Locks?

I just bought a BM720 from a forumite and I really like the axis lock. I notice that this version allows for either tip-up or tip-down carry. Are any of the other axis lock folders like this? I really like the Griptilian but I just can't stand to carry tip-up folders. Thanks.

The latest batch of axis AFCk allows this option as well.

When I clip my knive in my jeans pocket, I really like tip up. The thumb goes into the pocket, the four fingers go on the outside of the pocket, squeeze and pull up. My thumb ends up on the opening stud. What's the deal with tip down? I tried a Mel Pardue 720 in the store the other day and the tip down felt really weird to me. What are the advantages of tip up vs. tip down? I realize that this topic has probably been discussed many times before, but please humor a newbie. Thanks Clay

Ernest Emerson and I agree:
Tip up is faster.

Some people think tip down is more safe because they don't get stabbed going for a knife that accidentally opened.

My attitude is two fold: #1 don't buy knives that accidentally open.
#2 I carry knives at the very rear of my front pockets, so carry tip-up style, the back of my pocket helps keep them closed

I consider a tip-up carry a big bonus on almost all knives, I just like it.

Y.C., thanks for the comments. I have to say that I like your second ammendment reference at the bottom of your posts. I'm an Endowment member, my wife is a member and so is my 14 year old son. We shoot competively - rimfire silhouette. It truly is a riot to see a ram fall at 109 yards with a rimfire you shoot with no sling and standing on your own two feet.

Clay,
I nail rams at 100 yds from the bench with a 3-leaf sighted bolt-action. :P

And yes it is a hoot.

Mebbie one day i'll stand my hypoglycemic self up and try it offhand.

I don't think there is any right or wrong on this issue. Your preferences and attitudes are very individual. You have to follow your instincts. As Dennis (Shootist16) said, the newest BM AFCK Axis models allow for tip-up/tip-down, right or left carry. I'd like to see others follow suit.

Yup...it's all personal preference. You're going to hear equally solid arguments from both sides, but when it comes down to it, you carry what you want to carry. I've been carrying tip-down folders for the last ten+ years so that's what I'm used to and that's what I like.

And thanks for the info on the new AFCKs. Too bad I'm not an AFCK fan--I really hope they apply that to the Griptilian as well.

I love the tip up carry of my Mini-Griptillins. This feels much more natural and is faster (for me).

I am very pleased with the new AXIS AFCKs coming drilled for tip up, and am considering buying one (had a couple Mini's redrilled to carry tip up, but this gets expensive after a while).
