Tip down carry for Sebs

Has anybody seen or heard of a tip down carry seb (large)?
I am sure this has come up before, but has anyone gone so far as to have a new clip anchor point milled, drilled, and tapped near the blade pivot?

I just want to know if there are options for this. I'm wondering if anyone knows what CRK's policy on this is and maybe a rough price.

Thanks in advance.

I haven't seen it, but imagine it's possible (and without having to mill anything). There are a number of clips available that would allow access to the pivot.

I know that CRK doesn't offer what you're looking for as part of their "normal" options and highly doubt that they would offer it as a "custom" option.

You would have to check with CRK, but if you do it or have someone else do it, I'm sure that it will void the warranty.

It's been done and I believe there is a photo of it floating around here somewhere. I believe it was a deep cary style clip, like DDR uses, mounted at the top of the knife. Didn't look that bad IMO.

I strongly prefer tip-up carry though so I'm happy with my Seb the way it is.

I saw this picture in this forum before, and if i recall well the guy drilled a lot of holes in the scales and also reverse the clip.

It could be done quite easily. It would most likely need a different clip made for it to look like it belonged on the knife though.

I knew the forum wouldn't fail me. thanks for the responses, guys. I appreciate the feedback.
Garonne, thanks for the images. It really helped.

I have the same type of clip on my EDI genesis. i like it a lot. maybe worth a try to convert the seb. seems easy enough: drill press and tap to the right depth. Instant tip down carry. So it's possible....

However, I am still wondering if anyone has heard of a factory solution or one where the clip seat was milled out of the back scale, in the same fashion the regular one sits now. I envision a clip insert for the former one and placing the old clip in the new seat which has been milled and tapped for tip down carry. I believe that since the clip seat is .5 " long and each screw head measures .25" in diameter, there is enough clearance for a new carry down clip seat to be milled below the pivot screw and to the left of the stop pin screw so the clip would straddle the stop pin screwhead. The clip would run along the bottom, parallel to the blade lock and point to the backspacer pin.

Tolerances would be tight. There is about 1/32 of an inch clearance from left most curve of the backscale (pivot side) and the bottom of the scale. the clearance on the left most curve of the backscale comes from the fact that the clip seat is also rounded. I notice that the clip seat is actually somewhat pear shaped. I think that this larger diameter of the pear shape (the indent without the clip screw hole) will clear the scale and not cause any problems with this config. For ease of cleaning and minimizing screw wear, I would reverse the pins back to their original config though or drill an access hole in the clip. Not a biggie.

Does anyone see this as a viable option/mod?

Maybe this is wishful thinking, but I would like to keep the integrity of the blade's design as much as possible but still incorporate a real carry option. I know of another mono-lock mfr that gives a dual carry option that is already incorporated into the knife's design. i was wondering if a CR factory sanctioned option would be possible sometime. give the green light and I would be happy to send my knife in.

I'm not gung ho on this if it requires customizations that are not factory sanctioned and will void the warranty (I have thought of those consequences) , especially since a seb or one piece is also service from the company that made it. This thread was not a gripe at all but a question and thanks to everyone who have contributed so far. I now actually do have an option where there previously wasn't.

i called crk a while back and asked if they could re drill for tip down. they said no.

I suppose their (CRK's) policy has changed as the custom lg. Sebenza I ordered from them a few years ago specified and received a tip down carry clip. Perhaps it's only retrofits they don't want to do. You may want to clarify with them regarding new orders vs. retrofits.

Just an FYI.

I used to think sebs needed to be tip down back when I carried knives in my right rear pocket.

I switched several years ago to carry knives on the right front pocket. In the case of RH tip up knives, right front carry puts the blade against the seam of the pants. Safely away from hands when getting stuff in and out of the pocket.

I haven't punctured car seats or scrtached things since I switched carry modes.
