Hey all. When I got my latest Hinderer I immediately converted it to tip up, that's what I'm used to. Well fast forward a couple months and I started really getting into my Spyderco Millies. As most of you probably know, these are a tip down only, no option to change. Soooo, I really got used to the tip down, and actually came to dig it. Yesterday I pulled "The Beast" (XM-24 Slicer, Flipper) out of the safe for some EDC. By the way, I forgot how AMAZING this thing is, but everyone here already knows that!! So I flipped the clip over, applied a drop of blue Loctite to each screw and away we went. As crazy as it seems, I LOVE IT.

So lets hear from y'all: how do you carry your Hindi, and why??

Tip down always for me as well. It's just natural feeling and I don't like the flipper in my lower pocket. We are in the minority I must tell you though!

you know what I noticed? Im left handed...suuuper lefty...I carry my XM in my left front pocket, tip up, the natural slight curve of the knive rests along the seam of my pants better...I dont know guys, hard to explain...basically, if I was carrying my XM in my RIGHT pocket instead of the left, I could totally see myself flipping it to tip down. I wonder if this has any influence on how ppl carry the XM, even if its subconscious. so maybe most leftys like tip up, and most rightys like tip down? probably not, because most people are right handed, and still most people go with tip up. hmmmm....

For me it is a fairly simple issue. Right front pocket and Tip up. When the knife is removed from the pocket it is already positioned in the hand for deployment of the blade.
I never paid much attention until I switched to the "tip up" configuration. ALL the years I had carried tip down I never realized the flip and rotate I had to do in my hand in order to deploy.
One has to try the "other way" for a couple days to notice.
Coupled with the fact that, in my pocket "tip up" keeps my blade closed because the blade spine rides back into the seam of my pocket.
A knife only has to open once in your pocket for you to want to avoid that ever happening again.
Bottom line - Personal preference, no right or wrong way to carry as long as you carry :)

YES...what he said!:D thats what I was getting at...the spine of the blade rides along the seam of the pocket, that just feels like the natural way. Im dyin to know the story behind the RHK boys always switchin to tip down lol, Im sure its been discussed.

I think the bottom line is; the XM gives you both options - Which one the "owner" chooses is like I said, personal preference. There isn't any magic in the decision.

I always tip up carry for the reasons Rubi ^^ explained :) It's just the natural/common sense thing to do.

I think they ship with tip down carry so the LBS can be shown/visible

Right handed, carry in my left pocket. Tip up has just been more...natural...than tip down but I've carried both

my 2cents, a blade which enters a person's thigh could cause a devastating and life ending injury, this could occur from a fall, or a motor vehicle injury or like circumstance... simply running with a knife in ones pocket could cause such an injury, all of these scenarios I know seem far fetched, but as Rubi stated, having this experience only one time is enough to cause a wise shift in behavior. I have sliced my own hand reaching into my pocket looking for a light, only to feel the wet sting that comes from grabbing a sharp blade, and so tip up against the seam of the pocket is the only way I carry, and is the advice I give to all who ask. If you are inclined to sports such as mountain biking, motorcycling, skiing etc then on a belt in a sheath is even more preferable.....so endeth my two cents...sorry to all I've offended, but a severed femoral is not a injury I want to have to contend with, and if I can prevent one from happening then I'll gladly take the criticism...

Oddly enough I'm a lefty too and carry tip up, just a little differently. I carry tip up in my back left pocket as far out as I can. I actually find that to be the most accessible location for me and it would otherwise be a wasted pocket. I'm just happy there are options though. I hate being stuck carrying in an uncomfortable way.
