Is there a list, or thread, of tip down models? I know tip up is considered superior by many, but my Calypso Jr. just seems to come to hand easier. Maybe it's because my first Spydercos were like this, I don't know...

Well, in 2004 catalog models; the Police, Harpy, Endura SS, Delica SS, Cricket, Military, Para-Military, Chinook II, Meerkat, Gunting, Lil' Temperance, Impala, and Scorpius are all either tip down only or drilled and tapped for both tip up and tip down. The non-cataloged Civilian is, or at least has in some versions been this way also. In discontinued or current limited production models; the CF Delica, CF Police, CF Dragonfly, Massad Ayoob, Pegasus, CoPilot, Navigator, Standard, Black Hawk, Renegade, Pro Venator, Mariner, Worker, Calypso Jr, Q, C15 and C19 Terzuolas, C18 and C16 Goddards, C22 Walker, C25 Centofante, C27 Horn, Jot Singh Khalsa, C42 Viele, Herbst, Toad, Zowada, and Shabaria were also tip down or set up for both. I may have missed a few, especially on the earlier models, but this list should be of some help. Do keep in mind that some models have been in production a long time and may have been produced both tip down only and tip up only at different times.

I am not so sure it is better. I prefer tip down. I can draw tip down much faster than tip up. I guess it depends on what you are used to and which you practice with.

depends on your preferred opening. i like a backhanded grip, so tip-down (it does refer to opened position from pocketed angle, right?) works for me. also, i intend to get a couple of delicas on the cheap to wave for my EDC rotation, which will be aburdly convenient when needed.

At least current spydies that are still being produced will have a page in Spyderco.com. And in each page, there will be an arrow labeled tip, and it's tip down if the arrow points down.

It refers to the way the closed blade points when the knife is suspended by the clip. A knife like the Calypso Jr., were the clip is mounted on the pivot end is tip down, Knives with the clip mounted at the butt end, like all the FRN models that use the barrel bolt clip, are considered tip up.

When it comes to Delicas, the older FRN version with the molded clip were tip up, right hand carry only. The newer FRN ones with the barrel bolt mounted steel clip are ambi, tip up. The current stainless version allows either tip up or tip down right hand only, while older stainless ones are tip down right hand only. The carbon fiber ones are avaialable either right or left handed and allow tip up or tip down carry, and the 25th Anniversary model is clipless.
