I'm just wondering if anyone here had attempted at converting his/her tip down knife to a tip up. I know it sounds weird, but tip down knives just feel weird carrying and deploying. I have actually stop carrying some of my favorite knives because it's tip down and it's awkward to deploy. If you did it yourself? What size drill and tap did you use and for what knife? I understand that different companies might use different screws, but everything I have is a T6 head, except for the MT Socom. If you had it professionally done, who?

Just today I did my kershaw Blur. It comes with holes for tip up or tip down right side carry but I changed to a different, deep carry clip (from a kershaw Cryo) and The holes weren't the same. I used some 8-32 screws because I had the tap and screws on hand, had I had a tap for the factory screw size I would have reused them). The size of drill bit and tap will depend on the screws you need to use, you can pick up a set (tap and drill bit) for around $6 at HD/lowes if its a common thread size, or both items seperate at a tool shop for under $10 if its not a common size.

Just so you know drill bits designed to drill holes to be tapped are numbered and that number is not a size measurement, for instance an 6-48 tap needs a #32 bit, if they're not packaged together the tap will tell you on the package (and maybe even the shank) what # bit to use, you could also find that info on the Internet.

All in all a 5 minute job.

I have converted several knives from tip up to tip down. This is a little tricky sometimes, due to various locking mechanisms and pivots. If you check on some of the knife making supply web sites, they will have drill & tap combo sets for whatever size screw you want to use. A common clip screw size for many folders is 2-56. You can also get the size of screws you need from these same sources, in a variety of lengths and head types. I have used 4-40 screws on 3 folders, but they were larger sized knives.
