Tip - Marking steel

I've been looking around for a quick way to write on steel. Pencil marks are hard to see and scratching blue layout fluid is a bother.

I discovered that a liquid paper correction pen that I brought home from the office works good.... quick and clean. It gives a nice bright white line about 3/32 inch wide, drys in seconds, and can be scrubbed off with water.

I'm sure other forumites have their own favorite way of marking steel. If you've found a good way, how about sharing it with us?

I use a Sharpy. I even use them to mark patterns and then cut them out with a torch or plasma cutter, and the mark doesn't burn away. If you want a permanent mark, they're great!!

I use soapstone (like welders use)to mark my left over pieces of steel. Used to use felt tip markers, but for some reason the writing would dissapear after a while. This haven't happened with soap stone. And soap stone is cheap.
