Since I discovered Ballistol I've figured out many different uses for it. Most of them came with the description and instructions. But here's the best thing I've found to do with it so far.
Make your own pastewax with a 50/50 mix of Ballistol and beeswax (or custom mix it to your own desired consistency). Just melt the beeswax in a 1 lb. coffee can and then add Ballistol so it's a 50/50 mix. Stir it up real good and remove from heat source and let it cool slowly. What you'll end up with is a real nice pastewax that works well on just about anything. My favorite use for it is waterproofing and rustproofing guns and knives. If you have trouble with folks fingerprinting up your knives at shows I believe this stuff would put a stop to that. The secret is in heating up the paste after you apply it so it'll adhere to the surface (I use a heat gun). Once it liquifies from the heat just rub it in real good and wipe off the excess with a soft cloth. It will leave a haze that you can see if you do it right.
This stuff is a perfect finish and sealer for all wood, antler, bone and any metal. It's also perfect for a leather finish once you're done making a sheath or holster. Use the same technique and apply the paste and then heat it up until it melts and rub it in real good with your hands and then buff it with a soft cloth. It's easy to work with and non-toxic, food grade so you don't have to worry about it on your hunting or kitchen knives. I did an experiment a while back on a Remington 1100 .20 gauge auto shotgun and am still amazed at the results. That gun would rust up pretty regular even when I kept it oiled because it's my back door gun for critter control. It gets exposed to all kinds of weather and this Arkansas humidity is a killer anyway.
I'll quit now because I don't want to beat on a dead horse. This is good stuff and you art to try some.
