This is a subject that is a bit off coarse.
I would like to give you all a run down of some experiance 's I have had with shipping companies .
1. Fed x is fast BUT WILL NOT COVER KNIVES FOR THERE VALUE. They Ran over a knife of mine a few years back . It was valued at 1500.00 . They would only pay me 500.00 even though I insured it for the value.

2. I have had a few experiences where the package was delivered BUT the client said it was stolen from the delivery site. I dont know the details. Ask for a signature requiered label. It costs a buck more but it will insure that the package was delivered and a real person must sign for it.

3. UPS has paid every claim I have made to date. They are not always on time with the delivery BUT As stated They pay the claim.

Just a few obeservations...

I have not used FedEx for that very reason. IMHO when someone takes a package and charges you insurance based on the amount they claim they have agreed to that price.

UPS has destroyed, lost or misdirected too many of my knives for me to have any confidence in them. They have always paid the amount I insured them for plus any extra fees (shipping, customs, etc). It has happened too much lately. One package going to Canada took 20 days to get there and looked like it had been run over by a truck (tread marks on the package). I could have driven it there an back a few times myself before they go it there. (Customs was not the delay for anyone thinking of that. It travelled all over the country before heading in the right direction.)

I now use Airborne Express. Set me up with an account over the phone. The only information I had to supply was name of business, contat person, address and phone number. I had an account within 2 hours. They have great rates. They have no problem with insurance amounts. (I had to ask recently because of the amount.) They pick up at my door for no extra fee. I've only had one package that was delayed getting to the customer. That was because it was going to Miami at the peak of Hurricane Floyd. They still got it there that same week. Most packages are in the customers hands within two days of shipping them.

I think everyone experiences problems at some time or another no matter who they use. I'm sticking with Airborne for now.

i've used regular mail, they get em' there, just take forever in doing it though. i've found ups to be decent, they also take forever. i try and package knives so that they don't rattle, no one knows what's inside. i never put that i'm a knifemaker on the box. i find knives to be top on they're "to steal" list. most knives i send out are getting heat treated, and would be worthless to steal. how do i determine a knife's worth, insurace wise. could i sent out a package insured for $1,000 and it was just an unheat treated blade? or can i only insure for the materials.
