Marking your steel, I mixed up a couple of pieces of steel, what a pain. I bought a set of letter and number stamps and now stamp what the steel is in the end of the bar. so even if I don't use it for a while the markings can't wear off.

I have done basically the same thing except I use colours instead. Actually, I use the same colours that Texas Knifemaker's Supply uses. This also keeps it simple when I purchase stock from them.
