When we (Phillip and I) attach a micarta or G-10 handle to a knife, we use pins. The trick to holding the slabs on is to countersink the pinholes and peen the pins.
I use an old wood-boring drill bit to countersink the holes. The pointy tip of the bit makes for a deep countersink. You just pound the heck out of the pins until they fill in the hole.

I have NEVER had a handle to come off of the knife. In fact, if you try to remove the handle, you will have to grind or saw it off.

Do you hear that?
That is the sound of inevitability.

Great tip! I always counter sink the pin holes, but I never tried countersinking them that deep. It works great to. I just had to redo a kitchen knife handle that I had done once before. I hadn't thought to seal the insides of the scales since I was pinning them on, then it soaked up water from the inside out

Even with the wood water damaged it was really hard to get the scales back off.
