if you have a nice wood band-saw and no metal Band saw,, :(
and just happen to use a VFD, or thinking, hey I need one anyway :)

just replace the motor with a 3 ph motor <cheap) and crank down the RPM's. down viva the VFD
now you have a two in one band saw that is variable speed ..

Hey Dan great idea..
Me I put a 1 hp dc variable speed tread mill motor on my metal cutting bandsaw and now can cut anything at what ever speed it needs to cut best.Been using it for the last 6 or 7 years now without any problems, just blow the dust out every now and then.Alex Daniels has the same motor he uses on his grinders (variable speed) on his Craftsman 12 inch bandsaw with great results also..

just other ideas to ponder.

yes some good Ideas Bruce thanks....

I remember the talk about the variable speed tread mill motors back some time ago
but I can't remember where the guys were getting them from?
where did you pick yours up at?

Dan,Surpluse supply used to carry them..But while I was working at the scrap yard I pulled everyone of them that came in.Most worked or had good controllers that were usable...Be suprised how many treadmills can be had at garage sales for little of nothing ;) you know like other exercise equipment bought but not used :D ...If you find one make sure it is a variable speed and not a full speed motor with a slip cluch..

I'll keep that in mind tx Bruce.. :)

As you drive to work look next to trash cans at the end of drive ways -- that's where I found a good DC set up tread mill.
