tip replacement

I need to replace the brass tip on one of my sheaths and would appreciate a recommendation as to what adhesive to use. I think I remember reading a while back in one of the threads that some folks had encountered problems with various glues, but I can't find the thread and I can't remember what was finally recommended.

Any help would be appreciated -- thanks in advance.

I used Lepages 5 minute epoxy on one of my sheaths. I can't remmember which khukuri but it worked great.

Unlike the Himalayan epoxy it may not be possible to get modern epoxy off without damaging the leather.

There are epoxies especially suited to porous materials like wood and leather...those would be my first choice.

The Lepage epoxy is recommended for wood. I don't think it is recommended for leather. It works well for this application since there is no flexing.

Rubber and contact cement are recommended for leather. I find that it does not stick to metal very well. Metal to leather is an odd combination for adhesives.

If you might want to take it off someday use contact cement -- Barge is a brand favored by leatherworkers.

Five-minute epoxy is inferior in strength and not fully waterproof, but it ought to be good enough for that job; it's a low-stress application.

Coug has the best idea that I can think of.I have had luck with rubber cement.I use Barge, who also makes a kind of horse glue for boots.

Thanks, guys, for the help. I'm not sure which Of the various suggestions I'll go with, but it will probably be determined by availability -- whatever suggested product I'm able to find at the nearest hardware store. Again, thanks for all the help.

I was the one that had the problem.
I used some super glue onetime to fix a loose bolster and discovered that it would "melt" the laha and blend and reharden.

I have a very powerful white glue I use for my woodwork that I do and I used it to put a chape(?) back on the scabbard.
It also melted the laha and it ran inside the scabbard and got on the first 1/2" of the tip of my GS.

I don't know what was in the total mixture, but it pitted the GS pretty bad.I had a devilish time polishing it out.I had to do that twice thinking it would surely be dry,but it wasn't.

It took about 2 days to dry fully and it's there to stay now.
You might want to put some duct tape or something on the tip of your blade.I did use an excessive amount of glue though.
Hope this helps.
