Somewhere i read about soeone using a brass chisel to remove solder from blades at the blade/guard joint. Problem is, if you want to remove it from a brass guard, too, you will scratch the guard. Use a chisel made of copper! It is softer than the brass, but still harder than soft solder.
I have had problems removing epoxy residues from glued on handle scales which were polished before glueing, for example on full tang damascus knives. If you want to see the damascus all around the tang you have to fit anything before etching.
To remove the epoxy, i use small chisels made of bamboo. You won't even scratch ivory, antler or hard wood with it, but on the epoxy it works like a sharp knife.
