this place is lke my fav pup~ were over at the table i sit (BUCK KNIFE)
every one knows my name! that is why i come here...
i can see were some may be unhappy with the anouncement that free members do not have surch ... at least for now...
yes i know it keeps questions down a lot and that many of us refer many newbie questions to surch many times ...
but i have to voice my suport for Spark!
the amount of server space is amasing and surch takes so much power...
i wandered of the server bussy notices i was getting ...this expalins it...
i feel that all that would use this forum as more then knife chat should suport the cost of the forum as computer servers are not cheep...
i keep my gold as evdance of suport and
my aproval of this here meeting place..
other wise it is like comeing in and never buying a drink ...
no one minds giveing free water for to chat over
but it is the sale (or here the member ship charge ) that pays the bills!
no one should mind a tip for the bartender for that
extra shot of great service!
so i encurage thoes that come here offten and can afforde it,
to at least join as a basic member...
come on in the water is fine but the drinks are better!!!
and i welcome any new paying members to post here as such!!
and extend an invite to join me over at my table , i'll save ya a chair!
 
As an alternative for non-paying members, you can use google to search this site. Unfortunately it isn't quite as good as the normal search function. Just google: "site:bladeforums.com ???" where "???" is replaced by what you are searching for.
 
should probably resume my membership at some point. Although I just spent close to $600 on knives this December. I'll probably wait until January...but I am a slacker, so I might not be so welcome at the cool table...

I do feel semi special though as a registered user with a 100x100 avatar though :)

Sorry if I offended you. I did not mean to discourage others from upgrading their memberships, but trying to help those who would not have paid anyway. your original post was a little hard to follow so I only skimmed over it. However, after re-reading your post, I think I get it now. Once again, sorry for the miss-understanding.
 
kind of interesting how this got moved to support. Although I guess it does technically count as a suggestion?
 
Take the time to support the forum. I kept basic membership until I could afford Gold and hope to go Platinum just to show appreciation for the advice and "heads up, dude" shoulder to lean on. The advice one gets freely in Gadgets and Gear is worth at least the price of basic membership.:thumbup:
 
I finally joined about a year ago.

What prompted me?

Two things:

1. Spark at that time posted a description of how much freaking money he personally pays to keep this site up. It was amazing. I can't imagine how much a guy likes knives to pay that much out of his own pocket.

2. I discovered that the basic fee is only TEN dollars. $10! That's in the price range of anyone over the age of 18.

I think if everyone who posts more than 20 times a year paid the $10 basic fee, Spark would no longer need to pay thousands and thousands a year out of his own pocket.

Look, if you're a 16 year old with no credit card, that's cool. Or a destitute student, I get that too. And maybe you only post a few times a year...that's cool.

But ten bucks!?! When I mention that to the people I know in person, their response is "That's it?" And off they go to sign up.

Do it. It's really easy. It's safe. It takes about one minute to do.
