Hey guys! Im looking at purchasing the full size Manix but I am a little concerned about the thinness of its tip. I just got my Military CPM D2 yesterday and i love it. The tip may be a little on the thin side for me though. Is the Manix tip thickness the same as the Military or is it a little thicker? I would really appreciate some pictures on a side by side comparison of the tips from a top angle. Happy holidays!

My Manix measures .050" thick about 1/4" back from the tip, my D2 Military measures .040" thick at the same point.
The Manix measures .040" at the top of the edge bevel at the tip, the Military measures .032" at the same point.

Are you planning to use it for a screwdriver or a crowbar?

No I already have a screwdriver and a crowbar.....Murphy's Law. I dont pry with my knives. I have other junk knives to trash.

Question; If you were to accidently drop both knives and they landed tip first on to the concrete or wood floor, which one of the tips would you be more concerned about?
The Manix or the Military?

Thanks for the measurements. I appreciate it.

It would doubtless trash the edge bevel area of either tip, although the military being lighter might reduce the damage a bit. It hasn't done any more than that to either of mine (yes, BTDT). Edit to add: I'm talking about concrete floors. The wood floors haven't done anything to either one...yet.

I did that with my BM Dejavoo. I was flicking it open and it flew out of my hands tip first into the concrete floor. I almost crapped in my pants! It just had some minor chips at the very end of the tip and the edge towards the belly just rolled a little. It held up pretty good considering that i had it scary sharp. Just had to rebevel it again and now it's good to go.

Sorry I cant post a pic for you. But I have a paramilitary and just rcvd my Mini Manix today. I do believe they have the same blade thickness. I just looked at both of them side by side and the tip looks to be exactly the same size. I have heard nothing but good things about spyderco's customer service and would "assume" that they would take care of you in that situation, being that you were not abusing the knife.

Thanks Bax Axe! The Military CPM D2 is my first Spyderco and im really starting to appreciate their designs and mechanics. I mostly own the newer Benchmades and Cold Steel knives from the early 90's. The Cold Steels were the ones that were hard users and abusers when i first started my collection. My brother-in-law gave me a Cold Steel Recon 1 Tanto folder a few years ago as a gift. I use to work at a gym and I wanted to see if it would stick into the rubber floor mats that layout the whole gym. I dropped it from chest high and .10" of the tip snapped.

I actually bought a CS recon 1 and returned it. It definately felt like a solid knife, but it was rough opening and closing. Their version of the axis lock was not smooth at all. I thought I might have just had a "bad one," but I played with another at a knife shop and had the same problem. The spyderco's may not take real "hard use," but they are fantastic knives. It took me a while to finally just order one. Once I did, I loved it. It has replaced my emerson as my edc knife. It cuts and slices like no other.
