what makers/models have tip up carry? trying to find my next knife, i really prefer tip up. would like to keep it under a $100, over this limit if i really like the design.

comments/suggestions welcome.

Many of the economical Spyderco folders are made for tip up. For example, the Endura, Delica, Native, and various others are tip up.

Find a S.E.R.E 2K on the for sale forum. They pop up a little under that price. At least try to see one up close. I have yet to find a folder I like more especially at that price.

One of my favorite EDCs is the Benchmade Ares.
Mines the 735 with the green scales which I really like.
The handle has excellent ergos and an equally good blade shape.
The 730 has brown and balck scales which are OK too.

Its tip up and predrilled if you decide to change it to tip down, with an axis lock.
Got a lot of other knives I like a lot too but this one is my choice for hard use, camping and cheese cutting.

Actually MC Chan, you cannot switch the 735 to tip-down. It is drilled for switching it to left pocket carry, but there is no way you could get tip-down and retain the Axis lock function. I have the knife in my hand right now, so I know. :) Just pointing it out....

Myself, I've always preferred tip up and really love the Benchmade 941 / 943 series. The 940's also seem popular but I like a pointier blade.

It looks like I'll be the first one to say it, Sebenza! Chris Reeves builds his knives to be tip up. The Small Sebenza is truly one of the knife industry's great avhievements to me. For my hand and preferred carry, it's the "just right" choice for most occasions, just like Goldilocks said.

While I prefer tip up, I have in the last year or so aquired a William henry T10-CF, a Mirotech Socom Elite and most recently an Elishewitz custom that are all tip down carry. I love them all, but think that they require a flashier and more visible opening to come to battery as quickly as most of my tip up knives.

Just my opinion.

PS: Oops, missed the part about the $100.00 price limit. I originally started carrying tip up with Cold Steel Voyagers. I still think they make a good knife for the money. You could start with them to get a tip up knife in your price range. I was looking to buy a $100.00 replacement for the old CS and the search lead to the purchase of all of the above listed knives. Be Careful!

Hey Asha, your right.
Its amazing the kinds of misinformation you find on the net!

Think I read that bit about being adjustable for tip up or tip down in a knife magazine and just added to the list or in this case pile without verifying it.
Sorry about that folks
Thats why usually I just read more / post less!

The BM Ares is still one of my favorites in spite of being a tip up carry. My natural muscle memory action is to open a knife as if it were tip down and under pressure I might revert to this method even though carrying a tip up at the time.
In some cases tip ups can open in your pocket and bite you. I did manage to wave it open a couple of times but can't make it happen reliably. All in all a great little knife and I have no complaints.
