Hey Guy's! This is my first post to this forum. I have been lurking for a while just kind of soaking in the info that this forum provides. I have a question concerning a knife I just bought recently, It's a CRKT M16. The link I'm posting says that carrying this knife tip-up is dangerous and could cause serious injury. Anyone know why carrying this particular knife tip-up is any more dangerous than any other knife carried tip-up. Thanks for the help!...Andy

Probably because there is a chance you could cut yourself on the seat belt cutter if its tip up.

Funny, they tapped the handle for tip up carry though...

Edited to add and beat to the punch (Probably less safe to carry tip up because of the strap/cord cutter maybe?)

I would guess the safety cutter on the flipper would be the main reason.

*edit*
Looks like I was a little slow on the draw:p

It does say "not designed for tip-up in-pocket carry". I guess the seat belt cutter can get stuck in your pocket, causing you to cut yourself on the blade.

Thanks for all the help guys. I really just got back into collecting knives again a few months ago and this forum has been great! Very nice people, a lot less BS than other similar sites. I thought it was funny that CRKT thread and tapped the knife for tip-up carry also. I run most of my folders tip-up and it's kind of awkward to not have this knife tip-up. Thanks again guy's!...Andy

Knowing CRKT, they'll address that issue soon enough with a 14-step safety mechanism that will render the safety-cutter virtually unable to cut anything until you stand on one leg, close one eye, do the Macarana, and get an extra hand to help open it.

Did I mention how much I hate the AutoLAWKS system?

The reason for the tip down recommendation is like most mentioned above, because of the seat belt cutter.

I have a CRKT Elishewitz Anubis which uses the AutoLawks system.

When I first purchased it I thought I was gonna really hate it, but once I got used to it while EDCing the knife I didn't mind it all that much.

My preferred mode of carry is tip-up, but I don't dislike tip-down.

I have many knives that are tip-down and depending on the knife sometimes it makes more sense.

But to each his own, everyone has their own preferences.

Tell me about it. The only liner lock that's ever failed on me was an AutoLAWKS system. Completely useless garbage.

Its not designed to be carried tip up in your pocket. Tip up on a pack or molle vest or what have you is perfectly fine.

Dont worry about it. You can also have an otf open in your pocket and sever an artery. Life comes with risks and we just have to play with the cards we are dealt. I would say from looking at it that it is no more dangerous than any other knife unless you put the webbing on your hand into the seat belt cutter.

Hmmm, I had an M16-14 (a model WITHOUT a seatbelt cutter) and I'm positive there was a warning saying "not designed for tip-up carry".

It was also tapped for tip up, so I have no idea. Guess they're just playing it safe...?
