Wanted to know if there's ever going to be a Military made for both Tip Up or Tip Down Carry ??? I actually Sold a D2 Military that I had because it was Tip Down Only !! Loved the Knife but couldn't stand the fact that I only had one carry option and I don't like Tip Down !! Why is it that other Model's have this option but the Military doesn't ????

you can have it converted.
STR here on bladeforums does that, although i believe he is moving so it would be a little while.

I take it you want to carry tip up ? What is the advantage for you ?

My old Endura3 carries tip up. Personally I like to carry with the blade to the back edge of my right front pocket and the Military won't do that from the factory.

The Military 2, which will hopefully come out before the sun runs out of energy, is planned for four way carry.

Me too!! I do not like tip down at all. My main complaint is that to much knife is visiable above the clip. I don't like showing everyone I got a big honkin knife clipped in my pocket.

I think I want a Ti Military but then there is that tip down carry problem....ugh!

It's pretty simple, really. Spyderco has had problems with clip screw holes stripping out if the screws are not anchored in steel. The Military was designed to be as lightweight as possible, so the original single nested liner didn't run the entire length of the handle. When the second nested liner was added, it didn't run the full length, either. That keeps the weight down, but it also means there is no steel to anchor the clip screws for tip up carry.

If I only have one clip position to choose from, RH tip down is the one I want. You want the spine of the blade against the side of your pocket? No problem, put it in the front corner of your back pocket and that's what you have. Tip down is too slow to deploy? Practice. I'm very seldom in any hurry to get a knife out, and I can still draw and open my Military fast enough to scare the crap out of NKP, and startle knife nuts. From what I hear, Sal is a lot faster than I am. It just depends on what you are used to. Frankly, I don't see any advantage to tip up carry, and I don't much care for seeing a dozen empty holes in my knives, although there are a few that warrant it.

I also prefer RH tip-down for knives this big. I would like to add that in my experience and opinion, RH tip-down is the only position that allows for quick opening and minimal adjustment into a secure grip on knives this large.

On small knives like my delica or mini-grip, I love RH tip-up carry because when I stick my thumb into the pocket to withdraw the knife, I can get my thumb right up to the thumbstud or hole and easily deploy and open the knife with no or very slight adjustment for a secure grip. The knife is already in a good position to deploy without me fiddling with it.

In contrast, when I had a ZT0200, which (I may be wrong) seemed to be on the same size - length-wise - as the military, I found that tip-up carry did not work. I had to significantly readjust my grip upon drawing the knife from the pocket just so I could get to the thumbstud (or even have a secure grip if I used the flipper). So instead of drawing the knife and opening in one relatively smooth motion, I had to draw the knife, re-grip, then open.

I think the military would be the same way. As it stands now, when I deploy the knife, my thumb is already right in the thumb-hole, and the knife just slips into a secure grip. It's quick and fluid. I think if it were tip-up, I would have to readjust for a secure grip, as I experienced with the ZT.

. . . and I don't much care for seeing a dozen empty holes in my knives . . . .
Could not agree more.

I prefer tip down, but still like the BM 710 which is tip up only. Also, with the plethora of quality designs, it's really not hard to find a knife set up how you want it.
