Tip-up or Tip-down Carry . . .and How To Switch the Clip?

I have been given a lartge-ish Spyderco. this is the first pocketknife of any size I have ever owed that has a clip. Sits well in my right rear jeans pocket, but deploying it seems awkward to me. I am thinking of switching the clip from holding it pivot at the top of the pocket to pivot st the bottom, but I don't seem to have the right wrench.

What are the pros and cons of switching the in-pocket carry orientation?

What little wrench do I need for this?

There are a ton of threads on tip up vs tip down. It'll be worth searching and reading those, lots of opinions.

T6 torx is the most common (only(?)) Spyderco clip screw type

Buy a cheap torx wrench set at Harbor Freight (or any other hardware store). You'll mostly likely need to use a T6 or T8 to remove the clip.

As for tip up/down carry, the only opinion that matters is yours.

Personally, it makes no difference to me and I can/do carry knives either way w/o difficulty. I never removed a clip, except to return it to it's original OEM position or to take apart the knife for some other reason.

Which model? I find that on larger knives tip down works best for me. I dont have to reorient the knife in my hand to get my thumb in the hole.

What model ? Usually, they are T6 screws, the Manix XL has T8 screws, and some old ones have Phillips.

Tip up or down is very much a taste issue, even the Spyderco Military I carry mostly without clip.

All of my knives are tip up, since I am right handed and keep the knife in right pocket.
The blade won't open by accident.

The only knife I have that is tip down is my heretic manticore OTF.

I suggest wiha torx set, they are well built and have all the bits you need in one set.
Around 30$ or so.

Clip orientation is your choice, I usually carry tip up for reverse grip.

I'm a tip up only person, for years. A tip down knife opened in my pocket and cut my leg once many many years ago, since then I won't even buy a tip-down only knife. Plus, the ladies like tip up lol.

Model: I have looked at this knife very closely. I can not find a model designation on it anywhere. Ricasso markings say: China, Spyderco and 8Cr13Mov. Blade is flat ground, plain edged , and ~4 1/4 " long.

Torx T6 or T8? Thanks.

Almost certainly T6. If the T8 bit won’t fit, that’s the confirmation. Always use the biggest bit that gets in there and apply pressure to avoid stripping.

Look up Spyderco Resilience. That may be it.
