Tip up or Tip down

With non AO knives I usually prefer tip up. However with the Ken Onion AOs I find that tip down is easier and a more natural draw. What are your preferences?

I avoid tip down knives. I change the ones that I can to tip up or I don't buy it. I got my wife a Camillus Heat for her to try. After a couple weeks she wouldn't carry it unless in her purse. She likes tip up too. hmmmm that sounds funny but you know what I mean.

All of my knives that are capable, are tip-up. Less hand movement to get the knife in my hand and the blade open.

I prefer tip down on the AO's as well. My thumb just naturally falls on the thumb stud.

some of the knives, at least with the leek and the storm #1, when carried tip up, don't provide very much handle to really grab onto comfortably when drawing from your pocket. They kind of taper down and leave a very skinny bit sticking out of your pocket--so not only are they harder to draw but they're more visible. IMHO.

I prefer tip up on most of my Speedsafe knives, because it keeps the blade against the side of the pocket, and prevents accidental opening. It also places the knife in the proper orientation when drawing the knife. I put my thumb down in the pocket, and draw the knife with my thumb.

For AO, like the Leek, i think it depends whether the user uses his/ her thumb to open the knife or with the index finger. I for one, have my Leek tip up, so that the safety is not hidden inside the pant pocket. Once i disengage the safety, my index finger naturally finds its way to the index "flipper".

I prefer tip-up as my thumb is on the stud or finger on the flipper once I reach in my pocket. However, I've noticed all of my recent purchases have been tip-down folders...not because of the carry orientation, but I like the knife. I've gotten quite used to tip-down, but I still prefer tip-up.

You can learn to draw a knife either way, but tip up is more natural for me. More dangerous too for some knives that will not stay closed
