tip-up Paramilitary "customized"

I looked through the screws and stuff I have at home and tried to give the Para a tip-up clip with a screw through the lanyard hole (can also be used by lefthanders) and the clip of a FRN-Endura. Just for my couriosity, because this configuration isn´t very elegant with the machine bolt, but with a better fitting screw and clip (hole to big andclip could roll) this could be cool. The para rides low in the pocket but still can be pulled out fast.
A clip mounting à la Strider Sng may be the best. What do You think ?

That's a great idea. Tip down carry and a high ride in the pocket typically lead to fouling of the pivot area of my Paramilitary with dirt, sand, sawdust, etc. I've often wondered why Spyderco doesn't make all of their folders tip up.

I have often wondered why anyone would want a tip up carry. Sawdust and dirt in the pivot would be a good reason.

thanks to all for the feedback

Sal, perhaps Spyderco could bring out a "factory customizing kit" including new clip and fastening screw ;)

I don´t invest that much time in this project, but if a better sized screw and clip would cross my way, it would come to a fast end.

Isn't that oxymoronic? (striders are for prying, shoving into stuff, spydies are purebred cutters)

Awesome.
What a cool idea. I'd love to see the Paramilitary with a tip-up clip.
The very day I got mine, I took the clip off, and practiced drawing it as if it were tip-up. More like what I'm used to, but I do have to say that I really like the draw and drop opening, too.
Then I held a clip from a BM in place toward the butt to see how it felt.
MUCH better in the hand.
I love the Paramilitary, and it instantly put an end to my carry "rotation". Now I rotate pants, but the knife stays the same.
I've been carrying tip-up almost exclusively for several years, but the Paramilitary is so good that I can't make myself carry anything else, right now. Wonderful blade. I'll put other knives in my pocket, but before I leave the house, I always end up switching back to the Paramilitary.
It could really use a clip on the "right" end, though...

Hi Crashlander:

You inspired me to try a variation of this. Same Endura clip, but used a dremel tool to inlet the handle and create a clip "nest." Then I pushed out the bushing tube, opened up the spacer and lanyard holes with the dremel and round file, and replaced the tube with the larger diameter half of a short "Chicago" screw. A small lock washer fills the clip hole and holds the other half of the screw tight.

It does, indeed, put the pivot down in the pocket crud, but it also sits the Para about a half inch lower (very useful in the Boston area). It also allows me to put the clip in the LH position--perhaps the biggest plus for me.

I'll try to get a friend with a digital camera to take a photo or two for those interested.

Best regards.

I'd enjoy your pics.
I have the passaround para in my mitt now.
Lovely...just lovely..

Crashlander...
Very well done
I like a low ride blade.

That's the first time I heard a good reason for tip up!!
