I was carrying my CS 4" tanto today and realized something I never thought about before. I'm one of those southpaw types, and tip up on a right handed knife can mean disaster in my left pocket. Is it o.k. to carry this way, or should I not do it? I don't want to lop off Mr. Willy. Will the knife open in my pocket? What do you think?

hey lan, a friend of mine just cut a tendon in his thumb when he was tucking his shirt in and did not realize the blade had opened slightly. he was wearing sweats and had it tucked in the waistband.right handed, knife is a mt lcc.one of those flukes!

russ aka bladezealot. a cat almost always blinks when hit in the head with a ball-peen hammer.

There is a definite trend here.

Slipjoint in the pocket,

to a big lockback in a leather belt pouch,

to a tactical folder clipped inside the pocket,

to a tactical folder clipped inide the waistband,

to a closed tactical folder in a quick draw Kydex pouch worn around the neck

to perhaps an opened tactical folder in a quick draw Kydex sheath worn around the neck. (with customary attachments to allow opened carry in the "venerable" total of 9 positions)

We've come a long way baby. I'm sure glad I kept my fixed blade knives

I don't think tip up is a problem with a lockback, axis, and rolling lock. Tip up liner locks and integral locks can be dangerous. I have cut myself a few time with these types of knives. I don't think you anything to worry about with the Cold Steel Voyager. Even liner locks can be reasonably safe with a good ball detent (I still don't trust them though).

I've just been lucky until now. Never been nipped with a clipped or pocketed knife... until yesterday. CRKT Point Guard (awesome knife, everyone buy one NOW!) clipless just in my pocket, oriented tip up. A piece of lint was wedged between the blade and stop pin. 1/16th of an inch was enough. Took me two bites to figure it out thought

No matter what we come up with someone will figure out a way to accidently stab themselves.
