Looking for a floorless tipi tent. Anyone know of any other than TI Goat or kifaru? Those are a little steep in price.

I have a GoLite Hex 3. Same as Shangrila 3.

Shop around. You can find them fairly low.

You can put 2 people in one with their packs and have room to spare.

You can set it up with a pole they make or a trail pole with an extension they make or with some paracord using the loop on top.

It especially shines in hard rain. Enough room you won't go stir crazy.

Use some tyvek as a floor in the rain, pull a third of it back and if you have a small alcohol stove if you are REAL CAREFUL:eek: you can even cook in it.

Mtnfolk mike. Thanks for that link! I need to get a tent for when both me and the girlfriend go camping.

Try:

They make some great ones.

Gee 333rpm, maybe he should look into TI Goat also...:D

Aside from poking 333rpm for reading skills...+1 on the Golite Hex 3/Shangrila 3, I pitch mine by inverting my hiking sticks and using them as a center pole.

Check out owareusa.com . Dave Olsen turns out some good, quality gear. Mountain Laurel Designs is worth a look as well.

I have the Golite Hex 3 with the internal bugnet attachement.

Things I like about it:
Super easy to setup
Good for 2 people with lots of room
Can setup without pole in some locations, which is downright palatial inside

Things I don't like:
In the rain it's impossible to not get the tent all wet ever time you get in/out
With the pole it's a little awkward inside
3 people would be uncomfortable, though without the pole maybe ok.

For me, in Seattle, the rain thing is a HUGE problem.

With the pole you can set it up in like 2 minutes, which I love.

I wrote a review of the Ti Goat Vertex 6.5 and stove last year. I love mine and highly recommend it.

Google Titanium Goat Vertex review and you'll find it.

I think that's sort of the weakness of tipi style tents. What I do is if I'm using the tyvek floor we just fold the floor back 1/3 and then the area right where you go on the door is the mud room where you can take your boots off and stuff.

On the other hand I have a North Face Tadpole 23 and while it is VERY SNUG for 2 people it is also very rainproof and the vestibule setup really helps keep the inside of the tent dry.

Mine is a primitive hunters lodge, I've been using it for 6 or 7 years. It has a hole under a 5" or so awning that you can run a pole through to the inside and tie to the main center pole. Then I tie a another pole to the end and toss a tarp over the ridge.

It took care of the rain problem for me.

Another option is the Mountain Hardware Kiva. Heres a pic I found with the Tigoat jack/stove:

Sells for about $200 before jack.

The Tipitent looks like a good, but heavy option.

Campfire in the tipi. But after a few wobbly-pops, I'd probably wake up with a 400 degree fever

I have the 10' one from Sportman's Guide. Left it up for 2 weeks during storm season and it functioned great for the price. You can leave the floor out of it if you wish. They now have an 18'x18' also.
