unless u are pretty confident, i'd tape the blade, but the serrated edge isnt't gonna be stopped by the tape if u really gouge yourself.

I dont know what the laws are in NJ but general common sense says that if u dont flip it around in public and no one knows u have it, then u can't get it too much trouble.

as a courtesy i will send u my bear in exchange for your 42 so u can learn on a cheapy and not damage your $110+ knife.

Hey, hey......... another 'Joisey boy with a Balisong addiction. Welcome.

Balis are very illegal in NJ. Of course that depends on the circumstances surrounding you being caught with one.

Also, what kind of mood the police are in, any past record you might have, etc.

ive never had trouble with the cops, but im 15....

what would happen if i was caught with one in my pocket just walking around (if such a thing would happen)....or if a cop saw me using it for utility purposes?

im really having dufficulty getting either my thumb or index finger out of the way of the latch hande when i open the knife downward (thumb) or normal (index finger), i guess i just have to master flipping the knife so the handel when open is back to the same place it was when it was closed.....

also, the pins seem to stick a little, making the action a bit sticky (for lack of a better word, when doing flips slowly, the handle will freeze instead of closing all the way...) should i loosen the pins, or give it a shot of 2in1 or some other oil?

new york and new jersey have strict knife laws
i cant even order some hand and foot ninja tree climbing things
but a balisong is considered illegal and i suggest if you HAVE to carry it, hide it well

I highly doubt that you'll get caught with a bali unless you're searched or go through a metal detector. One can be avoided by just NOT getting in trouble, the other you're kind of screwed with

I wear my two 42's on my waist in the front on my belt. I always dress baggy anyway, so no-one ever notices. That and I'm not exactly THE most thin person you've ever met

and you can go to say, Wal*Mart, go to the hardware section and see if they have any small screwdriver sets with torx head pieces. You could order one of the official BM torx kits, but it'd cost more and then there's shipping.

the torx screwdrivers are quite useful for loosening and tightening your 42

What I've taught people when first picking up a bfk is to learn how to hold it so that the thumb won't be in the way of the handles at any time.I use the flat of my thumb solidly against the side of the handle, with the knife leaning from the middle knuckle of the index finger to the base of the pinky/palm area. This is good to start of with until you have more confidence with the knife. It's a great way to learn control with the thumb, and with the way that it sits,it's easier to get the other fingers out of the way when the handle is coming at them.
Welcome to the world of the "bladed yo-yo"

Oh,I forgot to add, when doing the opening/closing that you mentioned, put your hand straight out as if you would chop something with it.Curl your fingers from the middle knuckles, place the knife, safe handle in therein. This is a common grip for this move. The hand will rotate down to an underhand hold, with the thumb pushing the bite handle down.Just as it gets down, drop the handle, and let the main fingers loosen up just a bit so they can extend further around the handle. They need to get to the opposite side of the safe handle. At the same time, straighten out the thumb so that it lays right on top of your index finger at the base. This will allow the bite handle to easily pass the thumb area without much fuss.Once the handle hits home, you can roll the thumb onto the handle.
Now instead of doing what a lot of people do,don't change handles.Keep the safe handle wedged into the fingers and repeat the same methods to close. This way,the back of the blade is coming at the thumb area, but it becomes a smoother move than changing handles. It's also faster once you start getting it down pat.
I hope this helps you.
