Tips for Making my first handle

I'm going to try making my first handle and need some advice. Mainly how much wider should the palm swell be than the haft and when I draw out the design on the wood how much extra should I leave for wiggleroom

I'm going to try making my first handle and need some advice. Mainly how much wider should the palm swell be than the haft and when I draw out the design on the wood how much extra should I leave for wiggleroom

If you can find suitable timber then 50mm is a very good size for a palm swell, I'll try to aim to have the handle itself around 18-20mm.

How do you plan on cutting it out, and what tools are you using for shaping?
