Tips for removing burr on a chisel grind blade?

I have a Surefire Dart with a 30 degree chisel grind. I also have a sharpmaker. I've been using the stones basically freehand on the bottom to match the bevel angle.

I have built up a heck of a burr and I've tried just gliding it along very close on the ungrounded side. It just flips the burr right back over. I've been going back and forth, varying the pressure trying to get the burr off but it is not working.

I do not have a strop at the moment. Is that my only hope? I hate not being able to get this knife beyond moderately sharp. Will barely cut paper.

I would increase the angle on the unground side. That's what I do on my Emerson.

When sharpening a single bevel knife you need to use a fine abrasive to remove the burr every so often. Use lighter pressure to reduce the burr size then strop a few times on your jeans. If the burr is large enough that it is not affected by stropping on jeans then its too large and more stone work is needed.

Burrs should be hard to find.

When you get a floppy bur, you can also take it and drag it through a piece of woos, as if you are trying to slice it. Oft times, you can pull that bur off.
