Tips for tips?

So, getting the hang of putting a decent edge on freehand but have a few blades where the tips are no longer all that pointy and another where the last 3/4+ inch had snapped off completely.

Any tips or tricks you guys have to fix these easily?

When your sharpening don't run your tip all the way off the stone as it will round the tip, lift the knife off the stone before you reach the end of the stone. Also sharpie up the bevel and see where you are sharpening as you may have to slightly lift the blade to hit the bevel when you are sharpening the tip.

Tips are vulnerable to breakage because there is so little steal reinforcing that area of a blade. If your tip breaks off, when you reshape it try to keep as much steel behind the bevel as possible. Unless you want a true slicer, then you'll have to keep it thin up there.

I'm seeing that! I've gone from making knives duller on a stone to arm shaving sharp in a week reading and asking questions here.
