I promise i tried, but i couldnt search up a thread on heat treating d2 specifically.Well,im sure i did,but it was with 28 other pages.Anyway,i got a few nice pieces of it and have a knife ground out and hope to get another one or two finished tomorrow. Can my friends forge heat treat this stuff or is more precise and involved.I used TKS for my 154CM and they did a great job,but i know they are strictly S.S.Thanks in advance.:D

Ahh,google helped me out.It is a tricky heat treat, not a good back yard project for me.I also took a look and tks does heat treat D2 so it looks like these are headed south to Houston.

Ya, you need a good oven for D2. I foil wrap mine in 309 foil then take to around 1500f for a bit then 1850f and hold for about 40 minutes. I go the extra 10 to make sure the oven is even at 1850 for the 30 min soak. Then clamp between aluminum or steel plates. Then soak in kerosene and dry ice. Hope to have a N2 Dewar one day. Then 2 2hr tempers between 400 and 450f.

How does d2 grind after ht?

It's very wear-resistant.Take it very close to finished before HT and wrap it well to keep it clean- or have Peters' do it their vacuum furnace... no scale at all  It typically doesn't look good with a high polish anyway (kind of "orange-peel-looking", I think because there's so much free chrome?) so don't even bother.

Hard as s!@t after. It is hard to get a good finish on, as stated above. I'll post a pic soon on the last one I did and put a mirror (almost) finish on. A satin finish seems to work best, maybe 600 grit or so.

What? You mean to tell me you can't just heat up the edge with a torch and quench into used motor oil? :D
