Looks like with any luck I'll be going to a three day workshop to build a hammer. The hammer is set-up with a little giant type toggle link and the class will be lead by Clay Spencer. The class will cost 1000$ and will include all materials and tools. Sounds like a lot but not to bad to get a decent hammer in three days, especialy when you consider the price of steel nowdays! The workshop will be held in Tallahassee Fl on Nov. 18-20th.

For more info contact Clay Spencer at clayms@brmemc.net

or Clyde Payton at paytonforge@nettally.com

Oh yea, here's something of an idea of what the machine looks like.

Will, Whats the pound rating on this hammer? Looking forward to hearing about it after you get one built. Is there a link we can use to take a better look at it?

Will he be selling plans anytime? I really like the looks of this hammer, very simple. Probably everything available in anyone's home town. Cool!

brilliant idea indeed....wish I had the $$$.

Robert - I just love looking at your avatar. Do you have a larger pic you could email me?

It's a 50lb. hammer, from what research I've done it hits at 270 beats per minit max, a little slower than a 50lb. little giant, but hits about the same, weights 700lb. and runs off a 1700 rpm 1 hourse motor. It uses high density polyurithane for ram guids also to reduce friction. I'm not sure but I believe it has a brake also. Never used one but every body says it's more controlable than a little giant.

Plans are in the works, but not yet availible. If I had plenty of time to screw with it I'd just experiment till I got it right, but I'm no engenier.

Tallahassee is about a 7 hour drive for me, but I'll head in from the rig a day early and drive direct.

Will,When you get that thing built I guess I will have to visit you so I can check it out  ....

Next you will be building a press :D and then a rolling mill :D who knows where you will stop :p :D Your gonna love having that little hammer in your shop.Have fun building it.Wish I had the money to go build one with ya,have a blast for me will ya.
