Looking to get some advice on some tires. Got a 2002 Jeep Wrangler this week. Needs a set of tires. I looked at several brands but I think I have decided to go ahead with a set of Michelin LTX. Every time I have bought tires I told myself that is what I was going to get as everyone I have ever known that got a set talks about how good they are. Never bit the bullet and paid the extra for them.
Anyway they will be 31x10.50 and was wondering if anyone has had experience between the M/S and the A/T. I have only seen the M/S in person. The A/T in pics do not look much different. What tread pattern should I go with? The Jeep will be mostly a road Jeep with some dirt road and maybe snow if next winter is anything like it has been this week.
Thanks

I bought mich. LTX AT2. Nearly 20k on them and they went from a 16 on the tire depth gauge to 15 on the tire depth gauge. I bought these because I was planning on plowing snow with my truck(a change to working nights killed that). Many ppl with plows love them. I have never had an issue in all of the snow we have had the past 2 years. But I did get the LT tires or light truck tires instead of the P rated ones. they are a little longer wearing but not by much. I went with LT because of load rating. Your wrangler will never max out the P load rating. They are not loud at all on asphalt. The wind noise is louder in my truck at 70mph then the tires. And the wind isn't that bad.

No experience with the tires, but is there a Costco near you? They are having a sale right now; buy a set of 4 Michelins, get $70 off the total. Checking the web site, they carry the LTX M/S in your size and it would cost $162ea + install.

I'm running Bridgestone Revos on my old LR. So far they've been excellent on-off road, off road hasn't been crazy, but then don't follow if you like your paint lol. They are awesome in the snow and are holding up very well wear wise. On my Chevy 2500 duramax I'm running Goodyear duratracs awesome all the way around no excuse tire in my book can't say enough about them, like'm that much. Another tire my friends run on their trucks are the BFG's all-terrain ko's.
A lot of good choices out there for tires, best of luck with your tire shopping

I'm no expert but you should be able to get 32's on there? I like Goodyear AT's...but I lrefer Micky thompsons, and a few other brands that Re more off road oriented . Good luck on your hunt....also check online you'll find good deals and some Re fire and rim packages .

I've had 2 sets of Goodyear ATs and they were, well, a joke for all terrain tires. Couldn't handle a little mud and they sure didn't do anything in the snow or ice; were just a glorified street tire that said All Terrain.

Goodyear does (or did) have a different All Terrain tire that looked pretty mean, not sure if it performs though.

Have been using BF Goodrich All Terrain tires for a while now, and they get great traction, even in the ice. But, I've had 2 of the things get out of round on me (normal road driving, nothing harsh, and they fubard my ball joints) with less than 6k miles on either of them and BF Goodrich wouldn't even entertain the idea of warranting them or giving me $5 credit for a replacement. So I'm done with BF Goodrich personally. I've heard they've gotten better in warranties the past 3 years but they rubbed me the wrong way (also heard that if you contact Michelin (parent company) that they're better at warranting BF Goodrich than BF is)

When/if (hopefully never cause they're expensive) I'll be replacing my truck tires with Michelins, and I'm planning on slowly replacing the tires on my car with Michelins too (cause Ford using Continental tires on new cars was a horrible idea)

I bought an X Terra with 33" Super Swampers on it for my wife to daily drive so I could keep the Suburban. She did not like the tire noise.
I put a set of 31 x 10.50 - 15 GoodYear Wrangler Duratracs on it and they are awesome. Great wet road and snow traction as well as very good off road traction. They are also relatively quiet for as aggressive as they look. I have had a lot of mud tires over the years and have always been the most pleased with what I have received from GoodYear.

I saw a set of BF Goodrich that wal mart is stocking that looked awesome but they are only 50.00 per set cheaper than the Michelin and I too have had trouble with BF Goodrich in the past.

Thank You for the heads up. Just ordered the LTX AT2. Costco was over 100.00 lower on the set vs Wal Mart.

Goodyear wrangler duratracs. Best tire I've had. Aggressive yet quiet on road.

+1 I've put Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs on my last three 4x4 vehicles as replacement tires and have no complaints--quiet and good traction on/off road.

Bridgestone Fortera
Michelin LTX
Continental Cross Contacts
Bridgestone Duelers

Some will get you 40K miles some will get you closer to 60K are the top rated for stopping in wet and dry weather all seasons. I can't speak for AT tires.

I ended up going with the Fortera's as they have actual wet stop times and they stopped the best. I'm ok with an all season tire running 40K miles only myself. I literally just ordered these today. The Dueler's were going to be my second choice but they wanted an extra $50 to ship them for some reason.

I love Michelin tires mostly. They're always a bit more expensive but I've had better wear life and better traction results with them. Like I always tell my wife, your tires are the first line of defense between you and any vehicle accident; NOT the place to skimp. I think you're doing right buying good tires! (Not that you needed my approval of course)

BTW if you have a Costco membership you can usually get a good deal on Michelins...once every few months they'll have a deal where if you buy four they'll knock off something like between 50-200 bucks, and their prices and tire warranty are pretty hard to beat in the first place even without that discount.
