the tip on one side of the pliers just snapped off. :(

wasn't there a how to a while back on how to take out the bit driver on the new wave and replacing it with the old tools?

I have considered the crunch. which might actually work better for me. but the needle nose was soo damn handy.

You may want to send your Wave to Leatherman. They may have an old wave to replace it with or they may be able to repair it.

The leatherman wave is probably the best designed multiplier tool I've tried and mine has served me well for years. I'd think about picking up a new on if you've abused yours like I do mine. I'm planning on replacing my wave with the aluminum or titanium framed ones with the better blade steel (154CM I think?) when my wave dies. I believe it's called the Charge TI or something like that.

sorry to hear it, but like said Leathermans warranty and repair/replacement is pretty good, give them a try you
have nothing to lose.

LOL shangchi (don't tell everyone!) :p

Leatherman have a good warranty service. Send the tool back with a note stating you would prefer repair. If they are unable to, they will replace it with the current model Wave.

Try something that won't break, like a Victorinox SwissTool.

Swisstool is in a different size category, a heavier duty multitool that lives up to its reputation, but somewhat heavy and bulky for EDC. Among the several medium size offerings, however, the Wave (or Charge) is my favorite. For me, one hand blade opening and pocket clip are huge. The rest isn't bad, either, tough enough for anything but jobs that couldn't be done with a multitool, anyway.

Each brand has its own personality, and I like both. Leatherman products have served me very well, but if I can fault Leatherman on anything, it's that there seems to be a greater number of out of spec samples around than Vic, judging from internet commentary. Personally, I have experienced a (very) few, always promptly and properly made good by their warranty service. OTOH, my every Vic has been perfect out of the box.

Then get a Spirit. That's my EDC in my Maxpedition Versapack. I carry the SwissTool in my car.

Definitely give Leatherman customer service a try. I haven't need to use them for any of the 20 or so Leatherman tools I own, but most people give glowing reports of their level of CS when needed. If it is your only multi-tool, maybe consider buying a Kick at Walmart for $22 to use until you get your old (or a new) Wave back.

I've got the Crunch, great tool, does some things a regular LM type tool does not, but also lacks in features and other tools. I don't think I'd ever carry it as my only multitool unless I was specifically needing the stronger gripping pliers for a known task.

I have no interest in the new wave. the bit driver is no good. screwdrivers are for more than just driving screws.

contact leatherman and inform them of your problem and i think they will ask you to send the tool back to them. Thats what i did to my old wave but i send it to the Malaysian Master Distributor based in KL.

So instead of repairing my old wave, i got the new one instead with a new pouch too.

Oh, I understand, I prefer many of the earlier Leatherman tools myself to most of the newest ones. If they would send you a new one though, you could always sell it and use the funds to buy one of the old ones like yours that broke.

Im sure if there was enough force applied to break the pliers on the wave, it would probably would have broken or damaged most name brand multi tools out in the market including the swisstool.

Now if we could get Jerry Busse to make a multi tool out of INFI :D we wouldn't have these problems.
