As the holidays approach I was looking in the old gun safe last night to find the perfect knife to do the pumpkin carve this year. I think I'm going to try it with my Izula for the sake of easy cleanup.

Got me thinking about other holiday uses for knives and here's what I can think of.

Any I missed?

------------------------

New Years Day - cut the cork wrapper off of your favorite libation

Valentines Day - opening the box of chocolates and slicing each piece open to see what filling is in inside with out having to taste the bad ones.

Easter - removing the packaging from the premade easter baskets you buy from xmart for the kids so they look like they came direct from the e bunny.

Memorial Day - cut into the burgers on the grill to check for doneness. Opening packages of picnic supplies for the outdoor eating.

4th of July - Similar to memorial day with the added dulling caused by shortening the fuses on the fireworks to bring the boom quicker. (Ok just kidding on the last one)

Labor Day - See Memorial Day

Halloween -
- Pumpkin carving
-Cutting open bulk candy packages to refill the bowl after the last group of 12 teenagers came to the door and cleaned you out.
- Cutting into some of the candy that looks good to make sure it is good while you eat the good stuff after the kids go to bed.

Thanksgiving - Food prep in the kitchen as your guests at the table may not quite understand.

Day After Thanksgiving
In frustration you cut up into a thousnad pieces the Christmas lights you're hanging that worked last year but now one bulb is burned out and the whole string is done. The wire damage to the blade edge is worth the feel good that you have rid this world of one more $1.99 string of lights.

Christmas - The world series of knife use with opening all those boxes of stuff and having to get out my hard use knives for that retail clamshell packaging. Also maybe some food prep.

You forgot the most obvious: Gift giving and receiving!

Knives are always on my "gift ideas" list!
