Ok- I have heard a few times that people want it, I know the idea went in but not the current status of the idea.

I also had a idea that might help sell it- what about different colored handles? might even have colors that could match existing ionfusion blades. I kow that would boost price, but it might widen the range of people that would buy it.

And while a knife this size is perfect for the pocket, but why not put a clip and thumb stud on it and you have a mid-heavy utility knife that is sturdier than the lightning.

The add ons are not as important to me as just having this knife though:)

Interesting idea. IMO the Buck 112 is one of the most underrated knives on the
market for everyday use. I find it to be just the perfect size for great many everyday
jobs while NOT offending the general public. A strong light all metal handle version
may find a good market. Like the Buck 110 the 112 soldiers on doing what a good knife
always does.

I also wrote about this idea earlier. BG42 blade, ambidextrous thumb stud, G-10 w/ titanium liners, removeable pocket clip.......I'll take 10 of them right now.

I'll put in my order for a few! I really do like the idea. As long as I'm dreaming out loud, I want mine to have interchangeable blades for hunting.
Next time we are talking about new products around here at the plant, (which is practically every day) I will mention this idea. I better leave out the part about changeable blades for now though. One step at a time!

Go for it Joe Houser! I would seriously buy at least ten now. All but two for gifts, I truly love giving knives as gifts. I could also see titanium liners with a nice green micarta handle. Working on something like that with a 560 you put a BG42 blade in. Add me to the list, the checkbook is at the ready!

ps. I hope you had more luck on elk than I did...

I have to admit carpediems idea does sound cool, even though I was just thinking of it as a small 560. But like I said- anyway that I can get my hands on this thing works for me:D
How long does it take from the time that buck receives an idea until they kniow if it is a go or not?

MSCHWOEB, don't get me wrong, a 112 size version of the 560, I am all over that, but since we were brain storming what the heck. I'll shoot some photos of my project when its done, a 560 with BG42 blade, and hopefully some real nice green micarta slabs on the sides, have to figure out a nice one hand opening device. The aftermarket unit is not quite right. Saw a similiar job on a Buck/Strider....wow, thats what got me interested.

Tom

how about instead of micarta something else like G-10 or carbon fiber?

G-10 works too, red micarta would be neat if you dropped it, easier to see and really looks good too. I have quite a bit of ironwood for knives, a nephew works at a lumber yard and gave me the stock. I am easy I just want the knives......I can take it from there. My favorite is stag, I only have some elk horn and moose at this time but its worth a shot.

So we know that there are people that do deffinately want this. But can we actually get IT? I thought that the idea had been submitted to the "people in charge" of designs at buck, but this was months ago with no word.

Just got to play with my 560 that has a new BG-42 blade, it is wickedly sharp. I cut notepad paper with it, it cut clean no matter how fast I sliced through the paper! I must have this in a 112 size, call it the Titanium Ranger or the Osama Slasher. Buck must make this knife. Joe, are you there........?

Tom,
I thought you were supposed to be out there harrassing some elk in Wyoming, not me in Blade forums! :D
At best, even if we decide it is something we want to go for, it will probably be 2003 before we have any. We already have 2002 basically "put to bed". You never know though.

My apologies Joe, nothing personal, got carried away with the new blade in the 560 and wanted the " Ranger Bin Laden Slasher " version. The elk eluded me in Idaho, snow hit the day I rode out, outifitter called later to tell me the day after we left, and snow had hit the area we camped, elk were everywere.............ofcourse.
The outfitter I was with carried one of the original Bucklites, kind of a brown handle, rounded edges, blade worn 1/4 thru from years of everyday use. That ofcourse fueled the fire for the Ranger Titanium BG-42 version even more.......
Again, just messing around, besides you make it so much fun!

Stay Sharp,
Tom

Tom,
Sounds like another hunt to add to the collection of "shoulda been here last week". :( Or in your case, you shoulda stayed another week. Believe me, that is how most of my hunts end. This year, we had guys from Buck in most of the western states and Canada. We all came back with sob stories. The one guy that hunted in our local mountains is the only hunter to fill his tag!
Good luck and have fun on your hunt with Chuck!

For kicks I am bringing this one back up. I know we have bugged about this before, and dont want to pester, just interested in information about the status of this idea. Specifically, just a Ti handled 112, not all the bells and whistles that we were playing with.
