Titanium Awl?

I was wondering if an awl can be made from titanium and if anyone offers one? I would like something akin to the awl on the Victorinox Farmer only with a bit of a handle and maybe a loop on the end. I want to replace the SAK I carry with just the awl to lighten up my backpacking kit. The awl is the only tool that I can't live without. Well I could but what kind of life would that be? :D

I'd think it would be possible. I mean, they make titanium chopsticks, and an awl isn't far off, right?

What do you use your awl for, primarily? Scratching, jabbing holes in stuff, loosening knots? How would you like for it to be constructed? Bradawl, scratch awl, stitch awl? T-handle, palm swell, big fat knob etc? First thought is to source some titanium round stock and turn it down to meet your needs.

I want to be able to do gear repairs and drill holes in small pieces of wood. I'm wondering if Titanium would work because it would need to be sharpened on one side. I want it to look like the one below only it would need to be longer and have a loop on the back end so you can attach a lanyard and apply downward pressure with a twisting motion.

Maybe a SAK Tourist? It's a 84mm version with the Reamer at the back. Would be a very light alternative, no?

For the amount of metal in an awl, switching from steel to Ti wouldn't save you much weight. I'll bet not even 1-oz. You'd be better off finding a light weight handle to use with a steel shaft. The handle is where all the weight is in an average awl.

I wouldn't think Ti would be very durable in an awl... I know in my hammer and cat's paw it wears WAY more than steel...
