Hi all, I just got a Benchmade 970ST CQC7 with the titanium blade from someone off of Ebay. I just wanted to confirm with anyone else out there if this is indeed the real thing. On the box it just says 970ST. The screws on the outside are hex screws, not Torx. The blade is indeed a dark grey titanium color. Here's a pic alongside with my other Emerson CQC7's. On the top is the Benchmade 970ST in question, in the middle is my limited edition chromium nitrate Emerson CQC7B, and on the bottom is my Emerson black T coated CQC7B.

On the right side of the blade is what I think is the tungsten carbide? coating along the edge. Here's a pic:

If anyone needs any more pics to help me verify that this is indeed the real thing, let me know. Thanks.

I have found it to be the norm. I took one apart a few years back and cleaned it, smoothed it out a bit with some 1500 grit sandpaper, and lubed it with some teflon grease, and it was still quite gritty.

The gritty action should not be a surprise, considering Ti's softness and tendency to gall. It is coated with Tantalum carbide, BTW. Walt

I have used this knife for a long time near fresh and sea water and I really like this knife. Have had no problems with the action - must be lucky. Because of the edge holding problem, it's not really suitable for daily use, but when it's sharp it's very, very nice. How does do the Emerson productions compare to the Benchmades?

HJK, I like the quality of the Emersons a lot more. There's no sharp corners on the handle and the finish on the G10 handle is a lot cleaner, almost as good as on the Commander.
