Folks,

Last weekend was a small one-day knife show in Hartford, CT. I kept coming back to check out this very unusual piece by a maker who hails from Windsor, CT.

Gerry Jean is a machinist and crafted this unusual piece from an 1820 'Billings & Spencer' toolmaker's design. I couldn't put it down, and just thought how unusual it was. It's almost a click-out box cutter, but much nicer. All the detents work smoothly. There is a spring that pushes up on the blade from inside the frame. It's tight in all positions. Titanium frame with a 440C blade. The engraving and 23k gold is by Frank Conroy and is very well done. I think he sold it to me for the cost of the engraving alone! Anyway I offer you a look.

WOW Coop! That engraving is gorgeous!

You know a knife is a work of art when even the most "non-knife" people can see the beauty in it. I think this one qualifies.

And to think - I had never even heard of this maker until just now.

Stunning knife Coop, and a great find! Thanks for posting the pics (great pics too, I might add).

I wonder if I could get the company I work for to get one of those for a box cutter. It sure looks better than the yellow ones we have now.

Coop,

That is really cool!! I can appreciate the work that went into it.

Now if there was a Custom Boxcutter Directory with a photography contest.............. ;)

That is stunning. The mechanism of a boxcutter works really well with the engraving.

Sure it's a pretty boxcutter, but can you get a box of replacement blades for 75 cents? :D

I'm glad it's getting the reaction it brought out in me. I'm the one who named it a 'Box' cutter, simply because of the similar style. I think I'd prefer to call it a 'Fine Desk Knife' Harrrummph! Such an erudite phrase! :D

Website?? Without a computer, Gerry couldn't even give me an email! This is why this knife is SOOOO different--he resides in his basement without any influence!

The rubbed finish on the frame and blade is very well done and that blade has a bit of a 'fighter' shape to it. I know--it's The Sheeple's Tactical!!!!:D :D :D :D

I can't get over it. The design is nothing new. But I don't think one has ever been made in such a manner to be collectable. It is really a fantastic peice. Can I come over and play with it?

Lovely engraving, very nice work, and such an unusual piece! It's definitely one worthy of a double-take! Nice choice!

I can't get on the web as much as I used too but when I came across this . . . DROOL! I love it . . . you got a great find there!
