Titanium Carabiners

I was just searching around for some cararbiners and thought, "Hey I wonder if they make Ti versions?"

After all if they make some in Ti why not? :D Extra money? Bah! Think of the extra cool factor!

So any of you know some good places to find Ti carabiners? I found this place has them.

But not many other places.

Well, there's carabiners that are meant for keys and such, but not meant for climbing. I'm thinking these aren't meant for keys.
 
carabiners are SUPPOSED to be used for climbing. it just happens to be a good key older. mutt and i would always joke how his "key holder" can hold more than just keys
 
Carabiners are really supposed to be used to attach a sling to a carbine. Technical climbing is a relatively recent hobby (or symptom of insanity -- pick one).
 
Yeah I only want it for a key chain. Very handy for work and stuff.

No climbing for me. I aint got that urge yet! :eek:
 
Titanium would be great for climbing... except for one thing... Price
Steel biners are incredibly heavy. If you're carrying one, and not a lot of other equipment, you're fine. Climbing or rappelling usually requires from 2 to 2 dozen biners. It also requires frequent rust preventative service. It also cost three times as much as aluminum biners.

Aluminum biners are light and strong and inexpensive, but their service life is limited and is hell on ropes should aluminum oxide form on the surface. Carrying two dozen or more should be no problem.

Titanium biners, very very light, very very strong, but also very very expensive... buying a dozen of them would probably kill your entire adventure budget. Seeing as a climb may occasionally force a climber to abandon several biners, excessively expenive gear is not the way to go.

Also, if you're using them as a key attachment device, I suggest a Petzl as the little gate-notch in many other biners will cause your biner to hang up on your belt loop 4 times out of 5...
