OK, I am standing there with a Sebenza in a pocket, a TAD life capsule and a titanium technologies credit card knife so I guess when I heard the two guys talking about "titanium damascus" my ears perk up. I do a web search and the two word phrase does appear a lot (usually unrelated, but here is a Don Maxwell with a "Anodized Titanium Damascus backspacer" -- elsewhere they are typically seperated (or should have been) by a comma or period. Also here someone raises the unanswered question of whether or not pattern welded Ti is possible.

My guess is that contrast would not be great among the alloys... I didn't realize how many commercially available alloys of Ti were out there as no one seems to talk about them when we refer to a Ti blade, liner or handle.

Anyway, I think that I am not the onlyone out here that would appreciate some education on the subject of Ti and it's alloys and potential in Damascus. Please enlighten us!

Do a search for "Timascus" and find out why I'm going to be much poorer, once Tom gets caught up on his backlog. :D :D :D

Timascus was invented by Tom Ferry along with his two close friends. It is now readily available (just came into being this year) and will be in full swing at the blade show this weekend. It can be purchased from Chuck Bybees website at ??? alpha supplies.

www.titanium-man.com I think.....theres a link on my Link Page on my website. Very Cool stuff...........VERY difficult to make. NOT cheap.

It is a composite of 6/4 Titanium and CP titanium and they are coming out with a 3 composite mix soon. Manipulated just like damascus once you get the billet made, but thats the hard part. The temps on making the billets are VERY critical, and in some of the first experiments Tom had LIQUID TITANIUM squirting out the ends of his press-dont try this at home without adult supervision, you will burn your shop down with you in it!!!! :( :p :(

Hey Keith, that's MY pic! Okay, well actually it's property of Bladegallery...but it is sitting on my server space ;) It has the look of a heatcolored Damascus with all the great properties of titanium. They'll have some of the 3-alloy mix stuff at Blade! Very kick-ass stuff.

Fracmeister and all

I must apologize to you all, as when I saw this post featuring a Don Maxwell knife on my site I went and rechecked the knife.

I has erroneously made referance to the backspacer as being Damascus-but in fact, it is not- It is anodized Titanium but not damascus.

Sorry for the misinformation- I have now changed the description on the site.

Yours truly,

Neil

At the recent Solvang / Nordic knife show, Phil Bogezewski had an AWESOME folder using Ti damascus bolsters. Multi colored anodize because of the different alloys used. It really was wild looking.

If you are going to Blade and want to see the titanium damascus (Timascus), stop at table 27E. Mitch's daggers will also be on display.

Several top makers will have knives with Timascus:
AT Barr - 18K
Kit Carson - 3K
Allen Elishewitz - 5J
Tom Ferry - 27E
John Fraps - 15D
Ken Onion - 27E
Bob Terzuola - ???
Nick Wheeler - 27E

Have a great weekend.
