I've never heard of it being used for any type of metal polishing, perhaps it is too soft to cut metal.

The common abrasives used in metal polishing compounds are aluminum oxide, calcined aluminum oxide, silicone carbide, fumed silicone carbide, and emory. All are very hard minerals and able to cut metal.
