hi i was wondering if there is a reason that my dive knife is only sharp on one side, and if it would hold a edge better if i ground it equal on both sides before sharpening it?

What you describe is a Chisel grind in it's truest form, the problem does not lie with the edge, but the blade material, titanium is not a good blade material because it is quite soft, it's not much fun for your sharpening tool either, it will clog the pores. Get yourself a Sypderco Salt or a Bm H20, both feature H1 steel which is as rust resistant as titanium.

Welcome to Bladeforums! It depends on the angle of the grind and on the material. As 65535 said, titanium does not hold an edge like steel. But the Beta Titanium alloy used by Mission Knives can hold an eddge fairly well. One advantage of a titanium fixed blade over a steel bladed folder is as a prybar. Also, titanium with serrations may give you just that little bit extra cutting efficiency on rope.
