I always enjoy having some soul easily available around me. But a problem I have with those stainless steel flasks is that they tend to add a "taste of iron" into the drink, and that can be annoying sometimes. Now I am looking at those higher end ti flasks. Does anyone own or ever used one of them? Do they also have the same taste problem like the SS flasks?

Your post got me to poke around a bit on Google.

Does anyone besides Snow Peak make a titanium flask?

I own a couple, and have also owned one made by someone else. I lost iot, so I don't have the info. Sorry. Anyway, it was just as expensive as the snow peak ones.

These do not have the same taste problems as stainless. I kept very good whisky in one for a month, and compared the taste to a dram right out of the bottle. No difference, and I am very particular about whisky.

Upshot: Steel for knives, titanium for flasks.:D

Thanks shaldag. Very interesting. Xmas is just around the corner.

Nobody seems to have the Snow Peaks in stock right now though.

Might not be as good as titanium, but I use the Nalgene flask seen here:

I just use the pete flask without the lexan sleeve (just adds bulk/weight and doesn't have much of a purpose)- it's supposed to be specially treated for use with booze. I keep strictly tequila in mine ;). I don't notice a plastic taste, and the built in shot cap is handy. Not bad for 9 bucks :). REI has it btw.

That's exactly the info I need!

Now I need to massage my wife for THE Xmas gift. ;)

I have a couple of these that I use for carrying my whisky of choice into the fields of England while metal detecting. Never had any problems with them, they work great, seal great, and are super durable. No detectable taste change either...hard to beat for $10 and they hold a LOT of booze.
