Titanium knives and metal detectors

I've heard conflicting information on if and how detectable Titanium knives are going through metal detectors. Is there an article on this somewhere, or does anyone have more information? Does it depend on the type of detector (i.e. airport versus handheld?).

Thanks.

From what I have heard, metal detectors can detect all metals, but are usually tuned only to the common ones. titanium might be thought to pass through because it is non-magnetic, but I think that the detectors operate differently.

Hey Matterhorn,
Figured I'd contribute what I could here. I had the same question myself a month or two ago and found the "Search" button (right below the 9-11 ribbon) to be pretty handy. to give a rough synapse of what I was able to ascertain, titanium CAN be detected by metal detectors, but not as easily as most magnetic metals. As I recall the reason for this is because most of the walk-thru metal detectors are based off of electricital conduction, and not magnetic waves or anything. So, a person could hypothetically get it through a low tuned detector with the typical body broker security guards running it, but as tuning dials are turned up, and professionalism increases, your chance of getting past the checkpoint become slimmer. The only knives that will not be picked up are in the line of ceramic, G-10, and zytel. Not that I've had pragmatic experience in this field or anything (although a couple months ago I did accidentally smuggle a Leatherman Wave through SIX security checkpoints) Lotsa really smart folks here, I'd imagine a more comprehensive answer will be forthcoming.
