I have the ti millie and have the g10 with black blade coming soon and was thinking about swapping the blades out to have the black blade with the ti handles. Anyone have experience with this and can comment on whether the lock face is the same since one is a frame lock and one is a liner lock? Thanks

It's a crapshoot. Some guys have done this and had luck on the first try. I swapped an M390 (linerlock) blade into my Ti/G10 (framelock) Military successfully, but it took three tries to find a blade that would lock up safely - make sure you test the lockup. Obligatory warning: opening the knives voids your warranty. :)

In a nutshell, no reason not to give it a try as long as you're comfortable with your ability to get them back together.

It will be a cool swap if it works out...

Thanks guys, might as well give it a shot. 1shot1kill, if you ever decide to get rid of the pictured knife or blade let me know.

A fellow member PM'd me last night about this, and I wrote a lengthy response so I'm just gonna copy-paste:

Yea, I've done many blade swaps between Militaries and I've never had a problem going from linerlock to framelock and vice-versa. Even between supersteels and the standard S30V. I don't understand how some guys have these lockup problems when doing their swaps.

The very first Military bladeswap I did is also my hardest-used one, and involved 3 different knives. No issues.I received a military made up of spares. It was a regular S30V blade with a brown linerlock and Ti scale. The guy I got it from (and you'll be happy to know this) transplanted his XHP blade into a Ti Military, using the framelock side and kept the brown G-10. I got the leftovers. That same week, I got another frankenmilitary but this time it was an M4 blade in a black linerlock. The second guy didn't want the M4 blade and used his regular S30V in the framelock + black G-10. I got a used Ti Military that had a badly scuffed non-lock scale for cheap after that.

So, to summarize, I have a pristine Ti scale from guy #1, M4 blade ftom guy #2, and a used-but-in-great-shape Ti framelock from guy #3. Everything fits, and so did the 2 resulting extra Militaries which I traded and sold.*That said though, there still are no guarantees, but chances are good that it'll work out. I've also done it to a couple of M390's.Let me know how it works out.

A little tip:

When you remove the body, stop pin, and pivot screws, just rotate the scales apart without removing the lanyard tube. Sometimes they can be a hassle to put pack in.

Hahah, I was gonna send you a follow up PM and ask if you had any "little tips". :D

I've done blade swaps between 2 millies before and both knives had solid lockup with perfect centering. Never done a titanium millie though...

91bravo, I would love to have a couple of the low ride clips like you have on the first Millie. Are they homemade or purchased?

Hey gooeytek, did you ever pull the lanyard tube out of the ti scales and put it back? I'm wondering how hard it is and if there's any special trick to it because I'm thinking to do half and half ti/g10 scales if I switch blades. But do don't want to pull things apart and not be able to get them back together.

The lanyard tube is slightly flared out after assembly I think, and I had a harder time refitting it back into the G10 than the Ti, maybe because there is less deformation with the Ti so the lanyard tubes aren't flared out as much. I lightly squeezed the edges all around with a pair of pliers and they fit back in snug.

Gee Surfgringo..... You been two timing me!!! LOL. Didn't we just have this talk as well?

To the OP: yes, it is super do able. I have a Ti Frankenmillie with a Cruwear blade in it. That said, it was my 3rd choice. I tried my M4, because I LOVE M4, and had lock rock. Tried S90V, same story. When I put the Cruwear blade in it was like Goldilocks..... Just right.

IF, and I mean IF, you have the most basic mechanical skills, it can be done in under 30 minutes.

Do it and have fun. Sometimes a company even as fantastic as Spyderco doesn't make EXACTELY what we want. Then I say "customize it".

Bump.

Anyone else out there have a FrankenMillie with Ti RIL frame lock side combined with a G10 presentation side?
