Well, I got "bored" again. More frustrated than anything else and needed a change of pace from working on my latest endeavor (I am keeping that a secret for a few more days, and hopefully will unveil it here soon).

I dinked around with making some titanium rings and they actually turned out pretty good. I tried to inlay some with mokume, and that was a complete disaster, I just don't have the right tooling to get the channel set right for the inlay. But these two turned out nice (nothing original though), finished them off with some nice blue anodizing in the grooves and inside the band. Oh yeah, my anodizer that I built works well too!! :D

Anyway, this might be off topic, so feel free to move it to the OT room if necessary. Thanks for looking, and as always, your comments (good or bad) are appreciated.

Those are nice Sean! My wedding ring is titanium and I've been thinking about heat coloring it too. Maybe I'll give it a shot. The heat colored ti clip on my little Sebenza is holding up very well, much better than I expected, so the ring might take it well too. Nice work, and a great idea. Looking forward to your "secret" too. ;)

Are these rings cut from Ti tubing and if so, where did you purchase tubing? Thanks

Those rings look pretty, Sean. I fooled around with Ti rings a while back myself, and they can be quite popular with your friends! One tip: Try to keep the anodizing away from wear areas. It'll rub off fairly quick.

These were turned from round bar stock. Me an my buddy went to his work and used their lathe and some of their cut-off scrap material to turn these down. So I do not have a supplier identified for round bar, well besides the "scrap bin" at my buddy's work.

I brought home the ring blanks we made and tried to put a dove tail channel in them to inlay the mokume, but that did not work out so well. So I gave up on that idea and just cut the channels and anodized instead.

Yeah, I know the color will wear off the inside of the ring pretty quick, but I was tried last night and did not want to sand the insde of the ring. I like the look too even though it won't last.

I will have to try some more inlay work if me an my buddy can steal some more lathe time at his work. I figure if i create the need for me to buy a lathe, then I won't feel guilty spending the money on one, right?

Thanks for the comments.

Well, I couldn't stand it so I polished up my ti wedding band and heat colored it. The color isn't perfectly even all the way around, wish I had some way to rotate it while heating. I'll think about that, because I'm pretty sure I'll either have to maintain it or buff it off entirely. But because the color on the pocket clip of my knife is holding out so well I have hope this will too. Obviously I'll be taking it off in the shop from now on though. :)

I'll blame Sean when my wife asks what the "heck" I've been up to. :D

Those are really nice, Sean. Another GOOD FOR SEAN, you are breaking some new ground with a lot of your work, such as the mokume combined with the Ti rings.
