Has anyone ever had a piece of titanium get very light reddish rust like discolorations on it when it got wet? In theory this shouldn't happen, and it wiped right off. I ignored it at the time but now that I think about it, it was kind of odd. Perhaps residue from lying next to a piece of steel at some time? Just curious.

Not rust per se, but I do have some one foot square .050 sheets that are covered in what looks like copper residue. They are green and ugly but Les Halpern let me have them for $10 each. Truly a bargain!

try stick it in some ferric chloride for a week.....take it out and look at it.....and then ask that question again!!! :p:):p:):p

Mr. Mayo,
Thanks for answering. Are you saying that mild acids such as FC will rust ti if given enough time? I've used FC to get out a broken tap (thank you D.R.) but that took only a day or two with no effect on the ti. Thanks again.
