I like the question, I use the nalgene all the time for treking and camping. Now I have used a 1 L aluminum bottle and really liked it. It keeps the water or feels cooler than the nalgene, but have not yet tried the titanium. Im curious what people might say.
I don't have any Ti bottles but I do have a couple SS ones and I think they are great, very easy to clean and easy to get rid of any left over taste that other bottles can leave behind. I imagine that Ti would just be an improvement, weight wise.
Absolutely! Just make sure the bottle doesn't have plastic threads:thumbup: personally I prefer an SS water bottle, I think the TI ones are very nice but unnecessarily pricy to save maybe an ounce or two.
I have an Exotac Titanium bottle. I bought it one day on a whim. I'm a bit embarrassed to say that it cost enough that I baby it like one of my children. I take it on hikes, but treat it like a camera. I need to stop that. It's crazy light and very strong and came with a fancy microfiber case.
If you really want to be realistic, just get a SS one and beat on it. If it breaks, buy another one. Depending where you buy it you could get 3-4 of them before equaling a Ti one.
I don't think anyone should have an aluminum water bottle. Either makes your water taste funny or it's lined with plastic and you may as well got a plastic bottle that's lighter and cheaper. I'm still annoyed with SIGG who lied about using BPA liners for years before admitting it and changing them. Go BPA-free plastic or Stainless. Or blow your budget and get TI.
I have a Ti bottle, and I hate to admit it, but I baby it too. I use it every day, but I never worried about any of my aluminum, ss or plastic bottles. They sure are pricey! I just had to have it, because its titanium. But when I think about what kind of money I have blown on lightweight MTB parts it's not so bad anymore.... ; ).
I personally would be very hesitant on using aluminum bottles. There might be a leaching effect unless it is lined with some sort of food safe BPA free coating. Otherwise, stick with stainless, Ti, or polycarbonate BPA free. There does not seem to be conclusive evidence that Aluminum exposure is causal to Alzheimer's disease, there is a lot of implied correlation.
