Titanium

I got to put that on the knife making page
it's asked so many times...NO if it doesn't have
carbon in it chances are it won't work well
..with few exceptions.

Work hardened bronze probably makes as good a blade as titanium, if not better. Ti is no magic metal. It's only claim to fame is that it is so light. Yes, it's weight to strength ratio is much higher than steel but, so is aluminum's. Still not hard enough for a blade.

you can heat harden the edge, and it gets sharp, but is only good for one short useage before you have to resharpen it.

There are beta grade titaniums used in knife blades by the specwar community. Mission Knives makes some of these. They can be "Rockwelled" into the high forties. If the SEALS use them, there must be something to them. The titanium most the folks here use is 6/4 (for handles) and it wouldn't hold an edge all that long, as all ready stated.

The Navy seals would have them because it is non ferrous metal
and metal detectors won't pick it up, as in metal detecting mines
and such,
and like Tom said it may only have to be used once.:( :D

Also the corrosion resistance Dan. I've heard that even super stainless steels rust quick when they're in and out of salt water all day.
