Titanium

Depending on size, I don't think a small titanium knife would light off a "doorframe" metal detector, but it'd be picked up on a wand.

I have fairly heavy and substantial titanium eyeglass frames that have never set off any detector, but the width of a blade is a different animal entirely. A titanium spike with a plastic handle would have a fair chance of skipping detection but would also have almost no utility purposes and would land you in a heap of hurt if it was discovered by any means. I think if you had a piece wide enough to have an actual edge you would have enough surface to detect with today's machines.

I believe that anymore they have the detectors cranked up to full honk just about everywhere, so they are considerably more sensitive than they were a few years ago.

I'm not sure why in the world you would want to sneak a piece of Ti through a metal detector, but everything that I can think of is definately a bad idea.

I've wondered the same thing and I plan to find out. Don't worry, I have a buddy that owns a security company with all the gadgets and I'm borrowing a Mission MPF for the test.

Not a good idea to test the theory at your local Federal building:)

I din't have any bad intentions at all but was wanting to know cause last time i went through security at the airport the clip on my ballpoint pen set off the metal detector as well as the shanks on my boots. a buddy of mine walked through with some snazzy titanium pen he had and nothing at all went off.
